Capturing Victoria Beckham’s Style Regardless of Your Budget

Victoria Beckham is arguably one of the world’s most stylish women. She’s risen to fame from Spice Girl in the 90s to style icon and she’s even become a clothing designer of a high-end line in the process. She’s known for her style that manages to be both classic and cutting edge, as well as her ability to wear timeless items but ensure they still look contemporary and modern.

Of course, Victoria Beckham also has a huge budget to work with, while most of us fashionistas may not.

So the question becomes, how do you capture her style regardless of your budget?

Here are a few tips:

  • When it comes to color, use it sparingly. It’s perfectly fine to choose a really great dress with a classic silhouette in a bold shade of pink, but primary colors you should focus on when building your wardrobe include black, navy and nudes. These are colors that are going to allow you to mix-and-match your wardrobe easily, and introduce new and trendier pieces on a seasonal basis without having to completely rebuild your closet.
  • Accessories are key. Victoria Beckham isn’t known as someone who wears tons of jewelry, but her accessories, while simple and streamlined are always statement-making at the same time. For example, your only accessories may be a clutch purse and a fabulous pair of sunglasses, but if they’re beautiful pieces they can really take center stage with an otherwise simple outfit.
  • Dress with confidence. Victoria Beckham could wear anything and look great and one of the reasons is because it’s obvious that she’s confident in what she’s wearing. To achieve this, choose items that fit you well and look good on your body type. Don’t wear items that you don’t like or that you don’t feel are flattering just because they’re fashionable because you’re going to look uncomfortable. Even the most expensive item isn’t going to look great if you’re not wearing it with complete confidence.
  • Tailoring is your friend. Victoria Beckham’s pieces always work so well because they fit like a glove—not too tight, not too loose. You can buy pieces at H&M and still make them look like a luxury designer item if they’re well-tailored. Buy inexpensive items and then spend a bit more on the tailoring—your style will look completely different.
  • Build from the basics. Just like you should stick to a wardrobe focused on the basics in terms of color, the same is true of styles. Make a list of about 10  must-have items, like a blazer, a camisole, pencil skirt, little black dress, jeans and whatever else you feel like best fits in your life. Work toward building your wardrobe based around these items—spend a little more on your basics and then less on your filler pieces, or pieces that you’ll probably only feel like wearing for a season or so.
