Fashion App Spotlight: Spring

Spring made waves recently when it was able to raise $25 million in funding as a start-up shopping app. The company’s valuation at that time was around $90.

So what is it and how does it impact fashion-lovers?

Here’s the rundown: Spring was started by venture capitalist David Tisch, and the goal is to make it easier to shop for the brands you like while you’re on your mobile device. Mobile shopping tripled in 2014, which sent a lot of brands searching for ways to find buyers outside of their own apps.

Spring was started for iPhones as a type of shopping mall, but what was unique is that it let each brand control the customer experience within the app, according to Fortune. Brands can not only control what they sell via Spring, but also how the customer is seeing it.

One of the perks of Spring is the fact that it has an intuitive, user-friendly interface. You can add your credit card and shipping information and then purchases are just a swipe away.

Another unique feature is the personalized element—you can not only customize your overall shopping experience but you can also program the app so that you’re following your favorite brands or even your favorite fashion bloggers, plus you can have insider access to designer curated collections.

Spring now offers more than 700 apps including high-fashion and  more accessible brands, and according to Fortune a lot of the participating brands said the use of Spring was their first foray into direct to consumer e-commerce.

Here’s a few features of Spring:

  • There are brand exlusive items available through the site and one-of-a-kind items are posted new every day.
  • You can get inspired to make purchases thanks to the content on the app which includes as mentioned, designer-curated collections as well as collections from some of fashions big influencers.
  • You get the benefit of free shipping on everything you buy through Spring.
  • Browse through current best-sellers to find out what’s trending and what’s hot.
  • Only enter your payment and shipping information one time and shop hundreds of brands.

Spring also isn’t just for clothing or just for women—you can shop for menswear and shop by category with category options including accessories, beauty, shoes, grooming, home, gadgets, electronics, pets, art, outerwear, décor, tops, bottoms and swimwear.

Some of the brands you can expect to see include Warby Parker, Steven Alan, American Apparel, Marc Jacbos and Alice and Olivia.

We love the idea and think it’s unique because it’s really brand-centric, which is perfect for fashion-lovers who are also fixated on certain brands. You can really feel like you’re in-the-know with what’s going on from your favorite brand and shopping is also completely simplified. Plus, we love the idea that it’s a shopping app that’s designed and completely tailored to the mobile shopping experience, which can often be full of hurdles and complexities.
