How to Be Effortlessly Chic

There’s no greater style comment than hearing that you’re chic. Being chic is all about being stylish, without looking like you’re trying too hard. Your wardrobe doesn’t have to be too trendy, or even too expensive to achieve the chic standard.

There are some easy tips you can follow that will help you look effortlessly chic on a daily basis:

  1. Accessorizing is the best way to transform a boring or basic outfit into one that’s chic. Add great sunglasses, a hat, shoes with a pop of color or lots of statement jewelry in order to infuse a bit of whimsy into your outfit, and make it a standout.
  2. You don’t have to always wear heels to be chic or stylish. Flats can be a great addition to any outfit, and they also help you look more casual and “I just woke up this morning looking this great.” Anything from ballet flats to sandals are the perfect addition to an outfit.
  3. Basic T-shirts and tanks are some of the most underrated items you can have in your wardrobe. When you pair a fresh, basic white tank with nearly any bottom you look chic and effortless. Plus, you can stock up on tons of basic tees and tanks for just a few dollars, and pair them with more high-end items.
  4. Chic is trendy, as long as you don’t go overboard with the trends. Buy a few trendy pieces each season that you can pair with basics.
  5. Layering is a really important component of chic style. It adds depth and dimensionality to an outfit. For example, add a blazer and a cross-body bag to your outfit of a T-shirt and jeans. You can also incorporate a lightweight scarf for another layer.
  6. The way your clothes fit is important. You can’t overdo it on the ultra-flowy or ultra-close-fitting items. Balance out your body by pairing something that has a looser fit with another piece that fits more closely to your body. This will help you look neat, as opposed to messy. For example, wide leg pants are huge this season, but don’t pair them with a loose top. Instead choose a tee or tank that fits closely to your body, to balance out the volume of the pants.
  7. Choose items that you feel comfortable in. 99% of style is wearing what makes you feel good. If you choose something that you feel uncomfortable in you’re not going to look your best, regardless of how expensive or fashionable your outfit may be.
  8. Nude-colored shoes can be your best friend. Wearing nude shoes is almost always one of the number one style tips chic women offer. They make you look taller and thinner—so invest in a pair or two.
  9. Have a closet with great basics. If you choose timeless, elegant basics, you can add to them according to trends or the season and you’ll be more effortlessly chic. For example, a great trench coat can make an outfit go from boring to fabulous, as can the perfect pair of jeans.
