Mimic Olivia Palermo’s Fabulous Style

For many of us fashion-loving people Olivia Palermo first burst on the scene as a cast member of MTV’s The City, a spin-off of The Hills. She was working alongside Whitney Port in NYC for Diane Von Furstenberg.

Since then Palermo has become somewhat of a modern style icon and she’s also forged a successful career in the fashion world.

Palermo is often photographed walking on the streets of New York and other cities, and she frequently makes best-dressed lists for her looks which manage to be chic, sophisticated and a bit trendy all at once.

If you’ve wondered how you can replicate a bit of Olivia Palermo’s iconic style, here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. While Palermo tends to be considered a classic beauty and her style often falls in line with that concept, she’s also not afraid to experiment, particularly when it comes to prints. Mixing prints is one of her more edgy style concepts and it works beautifully because she knows how to mix prints in a way that’s subtle and sophisticated, without being overwhelming.
  2. Don’t be afraid of flats. Palermo of course throws on a fabulous pair of heels from time-to-time, but she also doesn’t shy away from flats like some fashion icons do. She shows that flats can be just as chic as any pair of heels when they’re beautifully made and paired with a gorgeous outfit.
  3. Palermo is not one of those style girls that goes for too many accessories. She’s a natural beauty and she lets that shine through as well as her love of basic and staple pieces mixed with trendier items, but there’s not a ton of accessories thrown into the mix.
  4. Palermo is a master of high-low fashion. Much like Kate Middleton she has mastered the concept of bringing together inexpensive and accessible pieces with more high-end items. It’s not even out of the question to spot her at a red carpet event wearing a dress from Zara or the likes. Fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune to look great, and she’s the perfect proof of that concept.
  5. She experiments with length, including when it comes to dresses, skirts and shorts. One day you may see her in a mini skirt while the next she could be rocking a midi-skirt. There’s no limitations when it comes to length in her style.
  6. There are lots of natural materials in her closet, which is great because clothing  made from materials like leather and fur are going to tend to stand the test of time and make great enduring, timeless investment pieces.
  7. Finally, Palermo doesn’t stick to old fashion rules like no white in the winter. She breaks all the rules and makes her own rules which is probably what makes her style so great. You’ll see her going from grabbing a cab on the streets of the city to attending a high-end event and she manages to pull of her look, whatever it may be, in all settings.
