Workout Spotlight: Bob Harper Kettlebell Sculpted Body

If you’re a regular reader of our blog you likely know how much I love workout DVDs. I’m a fitness fanatic and I think it’s great to be able to try so many different types of workouts and feel like I have celebrity trainers right in my living room while my kids nap or play.

One type of exercise I haven’t tried is the use of kettlebells. I’ve primarily stuck with traditional weights, but I’ve recently fallen in love with Bob Harper’s incredibly challenging “Inside Out Method” DVDs, and I discovered he has one called Kettlebell Sculpted Body. I absolutely love the yoga and weights DVDs from his series, so I thought maybe it’s time to move onto something new from Bob.

Here’s a brief review of the DVD from Amazon:

More powerful than any machine, Kettlebell Sculpted Body challenges you to conquer any plateau with 50 minutes of high velocity circuit training combined with your own body’s resistance. Join Bob as he shares his innovative techniques to build lean muscle and burn fat with precision targeted strength training. Turn up your heart rate and recruit virtually every muscle group with this ultimate sculpting and toning total body workout. Improving your body means taking your workout to the next level. This latest DVD from Bob’s Inside Out Method will push you harder, test your endurance and motivate you to success. Make the change today!

The layout of the video is roughly as follows: the warmup lasts for about 3 ½ minutes, the workout is about 38 minutes and then there’s a 7 minute cool-down.

Some of the exercises you can expect in this kettlebell workout include bell swings, sumo squats, alternating arm swings, jumping jacks, squats with kettlebells, halos, mountain climbers, bicep curls and bicep curls on one leg, and windmills.

Most reviewers on Amazon say this is definitely a challenging and intense workout, but you can change up the difficulty level based on how heavy your kettlebell is. Reviewers also say they like to see the participants in the video struggling a bit, even though they’re in good shape, because they feel like it’s a more realistic portrayal of how difficult the workout is. This is a good workout for people of most fitness levels since you can start with less heavy kettlebells and then move up to heavier ones as you get more comfortable with the video. It’s also great if you like to combine not only weight training but also some cardio elements into your workout at the same time, because most people who have done the workout say they definitely feel their heart rate rises throughout.

Plus, as usual the consensus is that Bob maintains a good tone throughout the video and is both tough and motivational, as well as funny at times and he makes the moves pretty easy to follow along with.
