Chic Ways to Wear a Tee

Basic tees are a staple in most of our wardrobes and they’re great for so many reasons. Typically t-shirts are durable, inexpensive, versatile and comfortable.

Despite the advantages of a tee, there’s a couple of problems that can come with them—namely, they can look really boring and also super casual and dressed down.

So how do you wear a tee and still look chic and not boring?

Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

  • Wear a t-shirt in place of any outfit where you’d typically wear a blouse. This is a really cool on-trend way to wear what would have typically been thought of as loungewear in the past. For example, if you’re wearing a pair of trousers and a tuxedo jacket, rather than doing a traditional blouse underneath add some street style in the form of a basic t-shirt, which will end up looking anything but basic.
  • T-shirts work well with any type of skirt, including the shorter skater skirts and also the maxi dresses that are so fashionable right now. When you pair a tee with a skirt it gives you a casual bohemian look that’s great for summer. One tip—if you’re going for a skirt with more volume then try to pair it with a more form fitting skirt to create a balance in the silhouette of the outfit.
  • Your tee-shirt doesn’t have to be plain—you can turn a tee into a statement piece depending on what it has printed on the front. Maybe it’s lettering or some type of message, or perhaps it’s a drawing or great pattern or print.
  • Want an instantly great outfit that says you’re cool and your style is completely effortless? A tee, jeans and an amazing pair of heels should do the trick. What’s great about wearing a t-shirt with jeans and heels is that it gives you the opportunity to show off your favorite pair of shoes without looking like you’re overdressed. With a simple-yet-chic outfit you’re able to showcase your shoes and make them the focal point.
  • Leather pants or leggings almost always look great with a tee. Why is that? The softness and casual feeling of a t-shirt provides balance to harder more rock-and-roll style leather pants or leggings. Top it with a blazer and you have an outfit that can easily move from day to night and anywhere in between.
  • Finally, when styling a t-shirt you can always go the old standby route and create a super-casual street style. Choose your favorite pair of jeans or pants, a soft, well-worn t-shirt and then top it off with your favorite pair of Converse sneakers and you’re guaranteed to feel comfortable which always means you look your best.

How do you choose t-shirts that can be worn in a variety of settings including to work and at night? Once you find a great tee, what are your favorite ways to style it so it works for whatever style mood you may be in?
