Staying Chic in the Winter Months

When the winter rolls around it can feel like a monumental challenge to look chic when all you really to do is bundle up and protect yourself from the elements, but luckily for all those style mavens out there battling the cold temperatures, you can look stylish while still being warm and cozy at the same time.

Consider these tips:

  1. Make the most of your accessories. Whenever you see pictures of stylish urbanites walking the streets of big cities in what appear to be below zero temperatures there’s one factor that usually unites them all in terms of style—great use of cold weather accessories. This can include scarves, hats, gloves, etc. Layering is instantaneously chic, but it’s also fashionable.
  2. Cashmere is a great winter material. It’s incredibly warm, soft and comfortable so it checks all those boxes but it also instantly looks high-end and elegant. You can invest in a really good quality cashmere sweater or two and mix and match it in a myriad of ways with other pieces you have.
  3. Chunky knits are incredibly trendy right now, and lucky for us, also very warm. We love using chunky knits as a layering piece with skirts and dresses so you can get more year-round wear out of those items you love. Chunky knits can also stand alone as a sweater dress, which you can then pair with thick tights and a great pair of boots.
  4. Utilize leather. Leather and even some forms of faux leather can be incredibly warm and you’re not going to get that dowdy bundled up effect you can get from other types of warm clothing.
  5. If you’re into layering but you don’t love the bulky look, think about starting your base layer with a great nude top, camisole or tank. This gives you the added layer in terms of warmth but it’s not as obviously that you’re wearing several piece of clothing at one time.
  6. Consider a cape. Capes are instantly chic—the moment you see a cape on a woman you think she knows what’s doing in terms of style. They’re very Parisian in style, but they’re also warm. You can just sort of tuck yourself away in a cape on those very chilly days while still looking fabulous. If you really want a stylized look, including a pair of long gloves with a cape and you’ll look as if you just stepped off the runway.
  7. Look for items that are lined. You may want the beautiful femininity of wearing a skirt or dress but you’re afraid you’ll be freezing all day—choosing a lined piece of clothing is going to help you remain warmer and it also tends to be a sign of a high-quality piece. Look for lined pencil skirts and dresses with beautiful, structured silhouettes.

What are some of your favorite ways to stay chic, even when the temperatures make your teeth chatter?
