The All-Time Best Date Night Style Tips

Fashions and trends may come and go, but there are some tips that hold strong for years. When you’re preparing for a big date, whether it’s the first date, or one of many dates in a long relationship, you want to look your best in order to feel your best, and to exude confidence.

Here are our all-time favorite style tips that work for any date night:

Natural is Best

There’s an old saying that girls and women dress for other females, not so much for men. You may try out the newest up-do and wild makeup trends for a night out with your girlfriends, but skip all of this on a date.

Guys like a natural look, so go for minimal makeup, and loose, flowing hair. Just keeping it simple is the very best style tip you can ever remember for a date.

If you’re going somewhere casual, go ahead and wear your favorite pair of jeans, and just dress them up with fun heels.

Go-To Dress

Have a go-to dress or two that you like wearing on dates. It can be that little black dress, or really any dress that makes you feel good and confident.

Choose a fun and flirty option that’s not too restrictive, otherwise you’ll spend your entire date thinking about how uncomfortable you are, versus how much fun you’re having.

Comfort is Key

Continuing on the theme of comfort, you may not think of a date as a time for comfort, but in reality it’s one of the most important times you can be comfortable.

You want to wear things that don’t dig into your skin, and you do want to choose items that fit well and work well on your body.

Don’t try to squeeze into clothes that are too small, or you’re going to lose your confidence quickly.

It’s not just your clothes that should be comfortable—don’t use a date as an excuse to try a brand new pair of shoes. Choose shoes that you’ve worn at least a few times and that you know aren’t completely miserable. If you’re wobbling and limping through the date, it’s not going to be fun for anyone.

Be Versatile

If you’re unsure of where you’re going on a date, or you’re planning for a date after school or work, you can easily dress up your daytime outfit and make it date appropriate.

Keep a pair of pumps in your purse, and add some jewelry to easily go from day to night.

You can also wear your favorite little black dress with a cardigan or blazer during the day, and ditch them that night.

Avoid Experimenting

A date, particularly a first date, probably isn’t the time to experiment with that fashion-forward trend you’ve had in mind. For example, it may be best to avoid harem pants on a first date.

You want to feel like yourself, just maybe a bit more dressed up, but it’s not the time to be daring with your style.

A date is about getting to know the other person, and having him get to know you, and the best way to do that is to dress in something you feel good about, so you can focus on enjoying yourself, versus feeling out of place or strange in your outfit.
